It's Christmas Day, and my grandmother turns 90 today. This is not only a big milestone for anybody, but it's a big deal in my Irish Catholic family that grandma gets to share her birthday with the Christ Jesus. It has always made the holiday somehow more special.
It makes me contemplate the meaning of our lives, our purpose on earth. When I'm 90, what will I think when I look back on the years lived? It certainly won't have been worth worrying about how many calories I ate or what I weighed.
What will matter are the connections made, the lives influenced (for better or worse), my faith lived out. So I implore you on this wonderful holiday – consider what will matter when you turn 90, and strive to live according to these values.
