It is September, the year isn’t over!!
It’s easy to tell ourselves that we’re going to start new habits or a new program of some sort in January after the holidays and to kind of throw away the last few months of the year because they get so busy.
But there’s over 100 days left this year. That’s a LOT of time.
Before we dive into our main topic for today, you know what time it is…We’ve got some Wellness Woo to talk about.
Wellness Woo is the stuff that diet and wellness culture tells us we should do in the name of health, but it’s really based on pseudoscience, exaggerated claims, or just nonsense.
Today’s Wellness Woo is: Calocurb GLP-1 activator (tell story I saw this a Price Chopper pharmacy)
Went home and googled it and it’s a supplement.
designed to help naturally trigger the body’s own GLP-1 production and satiety hormones
Prescription free, fast acting, affordable
9x more wt loss than willpower
No side effects
They’re basically just telling people everything they want to hear.
$90/month
What’s actually in it? The main active ingredient is a patented extract derived from a hops plant found in New Zealand which targets the bitter taste receptors in your brain. When you have hops in beer it gives it that bitter taste, like if you’ve ever had an IPA.
Now this is taken as a capsule so I don’t think you’re actually tasting it as bitter.
You have to take it 1 hour before meals 2x/d….can you imagine remembering to do that every single day for the rest of your life?
One of the scientific studies they cited to claim how well this came to the conclusion that it makes you less hungry and have fewer cravings in 30 women who were already fasting. Which makes me wonder if it potentially just makes you feel kind of sick and nauseous.
They also did a study where they said it made you not hungry during a 24hr water only fast…which is not how we eat…Oh and this study was done on 19 men.
The “science” behind this is just not impressive.
And the way they had it packaged and sitting on the counter at the pharmacy feels so manipulative to me…
If this actually worked it would be used as a prescription level pharmaceutical….and it’s not…so there you go.
If you have an example of Wellness Woo that you want to share, send it to me at rebuildingtrustwithyourbody@gmail.com.
Ok, that’s enough of that. Moving on to today’s main topic…What I’m working on + the moves you can make NOW to be healthier before Dec 31.
What I’m working on:
- Branding refresh….Website updates, updating podcast cover art, and bolder brand colors because I’m feeling bolder and more convicted now.
- Enough Already Movement – you might have seen the mugs that everyone inside NDC gets!!
- Updating the core curriculum inside NDC and it will drop before the end of the year!!
- Same core transformation – New frameworks, better ways of teaching things, new tools, faster progress, and overcome roadblocks that get in your way
- I’m going to a really cool conference with some incredible female business owners in November and I’m honestly a little intimidated, but I’m going to get out of my comfort zone and DO IT!! Building a business when my background is in dietetics and healthcare, and not in marketing or business, is the one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. So I’m pushing myself to get in rooms with other people who are on the same journey as me, or a similar one, and to learn from people who are doing what I want to do really well. It’s expensive and it’s uncomfortable, but I’m leaning into it because I know this is my growth edge right now. And honestly, this is how I learn to serve you guys better….these are the women who also run coaching businesses, have podcasts, do courses and group programs and I learn how to get better and more effective at taking my expertise and channeling it into this work that I do when I learn from other people who excel at that side of things. I’m not afraid to admit that there’s a lot I don’t know, and that I have my own blind spots that I need pointed out. This is how we grow.
- Personal: My kids are keeping me busier than ever. We’ve got baseball and flag football, and I volunteer with their program at church on Wednesday nights in the kindergarten classroom which I’ve done since my oldest was in kindergarten and I love it so much. This has made sleep even more important and I had to get real with myself about getting more sleep.
- Health – just went to dermatologist (and I’m so grateful that my dermatologist doesn’t push a bunch of cosmetic procedures – this is part of diet culture, esp once you hit 35-40 and beyond), upcoming appointment with cardiologist (explain), had a diagnostic mammogram recently (don’t ignore things, ladies!!), well woman exam coming up….all of this stuff sucks and is inconvenient AND it’s super important. I don’t mess around with screenings and getting stuff checked out.
So that’s where I’m at. It feels kind of weird and vulnerable to share all of that BTS stuff, so you’ll have to let me know if you like hearing it so that I know you actually want me to share that type of thing more often or not. The point of this podcast is for it to help you, and I personally LOVE it when my favorite podcasters share BTS and personal stuff from time to time because I’m nosey like that and it makes me feel like I know them better. So DM or email me to let me know what you think of this episode – and if you’re like, “Katy just stick to the intuitive eating stuff and keep the personal and business stuff out of it” that’s totally fine – I want to know if that’s how you feel so that I can shut up and not do an episode like this again.
Now that I’ve shared what I’m doing for my health, let’s dig into: The 7 moves you can make NOW to feel healthier before 2027 rolls in…
I don’t recommend doing all 7 at once. Pick 1-2 and start there, and you can add more as you go.
- Get your doctor’s appointments scheduled – ESPECIALLY the ones you’ve been avoiding.
- Know your numbers (DM me for the lab guide or grab it from the show notes)
- Pick 1 to focus on
- Get real with yourself – are you sleeping enough?
- I was staying up too late and trying to get up too early.
- You don’t need an Aura ring to know – listen to your BODY.
- Audit your eating patterns to look for your gaps – and fill them in
- Nutrition by ADDITION
- What are you short on? What food groups feel hardest vs which ones come most naturally to you?
- If you need help, LMK, I offer mini audits that are only $10.
- Audit your hydration.
- How much fluid are you drinking? (there is such thing as too much)
- How much caffeine?
- Water? (you do NOT need electrolytes)
- Where are you at with movement?
- This is another area that I’m working on. I’ve not been as active as I like to be, and I’m having to get more flexible, intentional and strategic with this in this season of life and my kids schedules.
- Do the deeper work on your body image and how you feel about your weight, and your fear of weight gain.
- How do you FEEL in your body? Physically, energy, moving about your day?
- Body image, self-confidence, self-worth?….THIS is the biggest vulnerability that I see that will send people back to dieting and doing things that actually sabotage their health.
As you are considering your health, and how you want to feel the rest of this year, keep in perspective something that one of my clients inside NDC said recently:
Your job is to focus on your behaviors and your actions to support your health. You can’t fully control how your body or your health responds, but what you can control is your behaviors so focus your energy on supportive and sustainable behaviors. I thought that was so wise.
I want to hear from you – which of these 7 things are you going to focus on? DM me and tell me!! And truly, tell me if you liked this style of episode or not. You won’t hurt my feelings, I really want your feedback and the data.
In case nobody has told you today – you are ENOUGH ALREADY. We’ll talk again soon.
