Meet Katy

Welcome back to Rebuilding Trust With Your Body, and Happy New Year, Happy 2026! I’m really excited for this year, and I genuinely mean that. Sometimes in the New Year I feel really “blah,” and this year is different. If I’m being honest, I’m a little nervous about this year, because of some of the changes I’m making in my business – but overall I’m excited, and I trust that I have the capacity and right people in my life to work through any challenges that come up in my personal or professional life.

I’m not much of a New Year’s resolutions person. I never have been. Especially now that I know the stats on how most resolutions fail by February…and in my mind New Year’s Resolutions are often a diet-y thing, which I of course stand against dieting and the wellness culture nonsense that’s out there. That said, if you have a health, nutrition, fitness or wellness goal this year, I love that for you, and I’m not here to yuck your yum.

This episode is inspired by one of my mentors who shares about once a quarter, or maybe every 6 months, what she’s been working on in her personal life and her business, and these are my favorite episodes she does – probably because I’m nosey, but also because I LOVE knowing the BTS of what she’s doing and WHY.

So I decided to do my own take on that type of episode here today, and to get a little personal and vulnerable and share with you what I’m changing this year…not as resolutions, but as part of bigger strategies and things I’m addressing in my personal life and my business. And because you who listen to the podcast (especially episodes like this) are my ride or die ladies, I’m going to spill the tea and keep it real.

Do me a favor – if you like this episode and want more episodes like this one, let me know on FB or IG in the DMs, or email me. And if you hate it, let me know that too…I want this podcast to be interesting and useful to you, and if this doesn’t check those boxes, then I won’t do this again. So you tell me!! (And don’t worry, you’re not going to hurt my feelings if you tell me this episode wasn’t the vibe you’re looking for around here.)

Before we dive into our main topic for today, you know what time it is…We’ve got some Wellness Woo to talk about.

Wellness Woo is the stuff that diet and wellness culture tells us we should do in the name of health, but it’s really based on pseudoscience, exaggerated claims, or just nonsense.

Today’s Wellness Woo is: Ion cleanse foot detox:

A foot detox is a therapy that claims to remove your body’s negative toxins through your feet and five little piggies.

On one chiropractor’s website, the alleged benefits include:

  • Increased energy
  • Clearer thinking
  • A boosted immune system
  • Improved sleep
  • Fewer aches and pains
  • Relieving migraines and headaches
  • Improving skin conditions
  • Increasing natural energy levels
  • Improving sleep quality and relaxation
  • Strengthening immune system function to help fight off viruses
  • Relieving muscle/joint pain and swelling

(Side note about chiropractors….)

The setup typically looks like a basic foot wash, with a plain tub filled with warm water. The twist? An ionizing machine sends out a low-voltage electric current to charge atoms in the water molecules.

It’s said that these charged atoms attract and neutralize negative toxins in your body. Basically, the impurities gumming up your system get removed through your feet as if drawn out by a magnet.

Want proof it’s working? Advocates say to just look at the water, which slowly gets discolored during the detoxing process. Some gunky crud may also float to the top of the tub.

The explanation is rather simple, according to researchers. Impurities in the water (think tap water) often react to the ionization process and add a tint. Corroded metal in the unit also may contribute. The chiropractor I referred to above has a list of claims on his website about what the colors of the water mean:

  • Yellow-green: Indicates detoxification of the kidneys, bladder, urinary tract and/or female prostate area; may be an indication of gynecological or prostate disorders.
  • Orange: Indicates detoxification of the joints or arteries; may be an indication of arthritis, gout, neuropathy or pleurisy (inflammation of the tissues that line the lungs and chest cavity).
  • Brown: Indicates detoxification of the liver, lungs, tobacco or cellular debris; often seen in patients who smoke or have been exposed to heavy second-hand smoke or another air pollutant.
  • Dark green or black: Indicates detoxification of the gallbladder or liver; may be associated with gallstones, acid reflux, a weak immune system or nausea.
  • Red flecks: Typically a sign of blood clot material; may also be associated with arterial blockage, bruising, hypertension or cold hands/feet.
  • White foam: Indicates detoxification of the lymphatic system or lymph nodes; may be an indication of a menstrual disorder, tender lymph nodes or clogged skin caused by an allergy.
  • Black flecks: Indicates detoxification of heavy metals; other symptoms of toxicity may include chronic fatigue or memory problems.

Numerous videos posted online show the water in a foot detox tub changing colors even without feet being soaked.

In a study published in 2011 called: Objective Assessment of an Ionic Footbath (IonCleanse): Testing Its Ability to Remove Potentially Toxic Elements from the Body. They analyzed the water from a foot bath, along with both urine and hair samples from the participants to see if any “toxins” were being removed – and the answer is no.

If you have an example of Wellness Woo that you want to share, send it to me at rebuildingtrustwithyourbody@gmail.com.

Ok, that’s enough of that. Moving on to today’s main topic…What I’m changing in my own life this year

  • Personal:
    • Prolapsed bladder surgery over Xmas break
      • Why I had it
      • How I’m navigating – not restricting b/c i’m less active, but rather adding in more protein and n-3
      • Also diagnosed with arthritis in my knee, so I’m figuring out how to navigate that with the types of movement that I like to do
        • Example of weight stigma – I was automatically offered all of the options that had nothing to do with weight
    • Slowing down to the speed of joy
      • Leisure
      • Unplugging from my phone on Sundays
  • Business:
    • More in person events
      • In an AI world, I’m seeking more human connection
      • Retreat in Feb
    • Taking bigger risks
      • Doing things differently
      • Delegating and outsourcing more admin tasks
      • Having more personal conversations, even though it feels vulnerable
    • NDA >> NDC
      • What’s happening
      • Why
      • How it’s more accessible than ever b/c of the 6 month payment plan
      • Current introductory pricing
    • Offering training for other RDs and health professionals
      • Why – RDs who don’t specialize in ED/DE, IE, body image, relationship with food struggle to know what to do when this comes up
      • If you’re an RD, therapist, or other health/wellness professional who feels tongue tied when clients talk about their struggles with food or body image, I just created a new free guide called “10 Well-Intended Comments that Miss the Mark With Struggling Clients” and I’d love to send it to you and hear your feedback. Just shoot me a DM.
      • I’m also going to be offering a self-paced course worth 5 CEUs for RDs about how to work with ED/DE when it’s not your specialty.
      • If you or anybody you know would be interested in these resources, let me know – I’d love to connect!

Ok, that’s the scoop on what’s changing for me this year. I’m really excited, but TBH I’m also nervous because there are so many things changing and change is uncomfortable. It doesn’t help that I just don’t feel like myself physically lately between my health stuff, surgery and just perimenopause changes, so I feel a little bit like a fish out of water some days…BUT I also trust that I’ve got this. I have the support I need, the mentors I need, and the inner wisdom from my body to tell me what to do and when to shift things that aren’t working. This is going to be a year of me trusting myself and trusting the process.

Let me know if you liked this type of episode or not. I obviously won’t do it all the time, but I’m curious if you like hearing more of the personal and BTS or not. If it’s not that interesting to you, I won’t bore you with it. But if you do like it, I’ll plan to periodically do updates like these.

Thanks for listening. And…in case nobody has told you today – you are worthy just as you are. We’ll talk again soon.
