Meet Katy

It was such a beautiful weekend that I decided to go for a run on a trail near my house.  There is something about being in nature and moving my body in such a natural way that creates an expansiveness in my thinking.  I get some of my best ideas while I'm running or walking outdoors.  It's an opportunity to sort through things that are on my mind, perhaps things that are bothering me.  By allowing my thoughts to wander I often feel like the cobwebs have been cleared.  Sometimes we spend a great deal of energy avoiding things we'd rather not think about, and it's amazing how much better it can feel after letting your mind go there.

There is also something spiritual about nature.  While I'm on the trail I'm transported to an alternate universe where I have no cell phone, computer or other technological distractions.  It is just me – mind, body and spirit.  Sometimes there is prayerfulness while I'm running.  It's so easy to find things to be grateful for when you're moving your body through nature.  I am grateful for my body itself and its ability to move.  I am grateful for the beauty around me, especially the wildlife.  I am grateful for the breeze, or the sunshine, or the leaves crunching under my feet.  It makes me appreciate each season and look forward to the next.  There's just something so natural about it, which brings me peace.
