No amount of food will fill it.
Food might distract you for a minute.
It might even numb the pain.
Food can certainly make you feel physically full….but not emotionally fulfilled.
That empty space will still be there until you fill it with what your soul actually desires.
For some help exploring what your true desire are, here are a few books to get you started:
- Appetites by Geneen Roth
- Eating in the Light of the Moon by Anita Johnston, PhD
- 8 Keys to Recovery from an Eating Disorder Workbook by Carolyn Costin (workbooks are fun!)
- Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff
- What to do when it’s your turn by Seth Godin (not ED-specific but it will change your way of thinking!)
Reading these types of books and taking action as a result will definitely enhance your recovery process. It will help your brain continue to explore these concepts and form new neural pathways. You’ll be presented with new ideas, or familiar concepts presented in a new way. It’s never to early or late on your journey to do these things and use these resources. In fact, if you’ve already read any of these books, it’s probably worth reading them again – because you’ll get something different out of it when you are in a different place in your recovery. Enjoy!
