Full disclosure – I scored poorly on the self-compassion test, but it's something I'm working on.

The most helpful tip I've come across regarding self-compassion is to treat yourself like you would a friend.  Most of us would never say the things we say to ourselves to a friend.  We are so hard on ourselves.  This practice (emphasis on the word "practice") may feel hokey at first, but it really does work.
