We've already covered the first 2 Principles of Intuitive Eating this week:
Call a truce. The war is over. You no longer have to battle your body and it's food cravings. The first step to decharming food is to allow yourself to eat what you want (when you are hungry – because that was the 2nd Principle, right?). I'm not saying overeat, but I am saying eat what your body wants.
This will probably be scary and confusing at first. You will likely find yourself wanting mostly your (previously) forbidden foods. That voice in your head that still wants to cling to the diet mentality will tell you that this is crazy, and if you keep going you're going to eat yourself into oblivion. I'm asking you to take a leap of faith.
By eating what you actually want, it will soon take the power away from the food. Your body will start to trust that it CAN have what it wants, and therefore there is no need to overeat now because you know that you can have more later if you desire.
When all foods are neutralized it opens the door for your body to crave the entire spectrum of food without judgment. When we are truly honoring our hunger our body tells us exactly what it needs to be nourished and satisfied.
Tomorrow we'll challenge the food police!
