Meet Katy

Yesterday I featured an overview of the Principles of Intuitive Eating. Today we're taking a closer look at the 1st Principle: Reject the Diet Mentality.

Diets don't work. 95% of people who go on a diet regain the weight they lost (if they lost any to begin with), and often they rebound at a higher weight than before the diet. Numerous clients have told me they dieted their way up to their highest weight.  They scratch their heads and blame themselves.  They assume they must have failed. But they didn't fail.  The diet did.  The industry did.

It's not fair to blame yourself for failing something that was never going to work for the long-term in the first place.  Nobody would blame you for failing to maintain a sprint for an entire marathon, it's impossible, and we easily recognize that it would be silly to even attempt this to begin with.

Let yourself feel anger towards the diet industry and our culture that made you all of these false promises and wasted so much of your time and energy.

Tomorrow we'll discuss how to honor your hunger.
