If you’re at a lame party, call it what it is – lame. You don’t have to do anything to change it. No need to try and improve the moment with food or alcohol. Creating a party in your mouth doesn’t make the party in the room any less lame.
If you arrive home after a long, exhausting day at work, call it what it is – you’re tired. Keeping yourself awake with an evening of mindless eating isn’t going to make you less tired. Go to bed early.
If you get in a fight with your spouse and are feeling hurt, call it what it is – emotional pain. Drowning your sorrows with a bucket of ice cream or a bottle of wine isn’t going to cure the pain, it will only numb it temporarily.
So when you’re feeling discomfort, call it what it is. Don’t try to run away from it, accept it. This will allow you to respond in a way that honors your true needs.
