Body image is a struggle for many people, and sadly many of the things we do on a daily basis make us feel worse rather than better. For example, studies consistently show that body checking (weighing, looking in the mirror, touching/pinching, and other ways of assessing your body) result in more body dissatisfaction. So here are 3 things you can do now to start feeling better in your skin:
1. Wear clothing that fits you now. Not clothing that used to fit, or that you hope will fit in the future. Sure, you may have to buy clothes again if your body changes, we all have to do this from time to time. Honor your body as it is today.
2. Spend some time outside. There is something incredibly therapeutic about nature. Be mindful of the experience – notice the sights, smells, sounds, breeze. Appreciate the beauty found outdoors.
3. Try some movement. Anything works – take walk, do some stretching, play with your dog. While moving your body practice gratitude for the many wonderful things it does for you.
