Meet Katy

If hurtful things have happened to your heart, and you have not yet dealt with them, those old events will continue to produce issues in your life. If we haven’t dealt with the baggage we bring into any given situation, then those hurts and issues will interfere and wreak havoc with whatever new situation we find ourselves in. In a very real sense, our past will become our present. — Dr. Henry Cloud
This quote stopped me in my tracks this morning.
Eating issues and eating disorders are often born out of these unresolved issues from our past.  They create an unconscious pattern of eating that is ultimately harmful to us but we don’t truly understand why we are doing it.
The dysfunctional eating behaviors are attributed to things like
-I just want to eat healthier and lose weight
-I was stressed out
-I was bored
-I have a sugar addiction
People don’t develop significant eating issues without deeper (and again, unconscious) reasons.
That is why it is crucial we take a look at the way you are using food through the lens of decoding it as a symbol of the deeper hurts.
It’s not about the food.
The food is the symptom, not the problem.
Until we identify our real problems and address them in a healing way, the food symptoms will continue to manifest themselves one way or another.
