Meet Katy

As we head into Labor Day weekend I've been reflecting on what it means to take breaks.  As a clinician in private practice I know that if I don't do the work it doesn't get done.  This is simultaneously terrifying, overwhelming and incredibly empowering.

I go to work every day knowing that what I do matters to the individuals whose lives I'm blessed enough to be a part of.  And I'm never bored at work.  Not a moment goes by where I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs counting down the hours until I get to go home.  And I LOVE it.

I'm also constantly thinking creatively outside of work about how I can better serve my clientele.  Whether it's topics for blog posts, my next book, a presentation, or a way to improve client interactions, my mind is always spinning.

As exciting as this career is, I can see where it could easily take over my life and my soul.  There have to be times where I turn my business brain off and engage in other areas of my life.  Without that balance it's like I'm riding a bike with a flat tire, always lopsided.

So this weekend I'm going to recharge my batteries.  I'm going to take a break from working, physically and mentally.  I'm going to relax and enjoy some downtime with my husband and dog as we anxiously await the arrival of our little baby boy who is due any day now.  I want to give you permission to do the same – give yourself a break and enjoy some rest.  It does a body and soul some good.
