Now…for today’s episode…
What if your struggles with food and your body aren’t really about food or your body?
In this episode, I’m joined by trauma and eating disorder therapist Jennifer Lancaster, LCSW-S, PATP, RYT, founder of Houston Healing Collective, to explore the connection between trauma, chronic dieting, eating disorders, body image, and the nervous system.
We talk about why you can know all the “right” intuitive eating or eating disorder recovery skills and still feel stuck, especially when the deeper issues underneath your behaviors haven’t been addressed.
You’ll learn:
1 – How trauma can show up through restriction, bingeing, perfectionism, exercise, and body disconnection.
2 – Why emotions can come rushing in when you stop using food or dieting behaviors to cope.
3 – How EMDR, ketamine-assisted and psychedelic-assisted therapy can help when talking about your experiences hasn’t been enough.
If you’re frustrated that you “know what to do” but you’re not doing it, or you feel stuck on your journey towards recovery or healing your relationship with food, this episode will give you things to consider that you might not have thought about before.
Episode Highlights:
-What actually counts as trauma (because it isn’t always something catastrophic), and how it impacts your connection with your body and your ability to eat intuitively.
-Why learning coping skills often isn’t enough to fully heal your food and body image issues.
-Where to start if you want to feel safer and more at home in your body starting today.
