Meet Katy

I was reading an article in a nutrition magazine about making homemade baby food.  Lovely idea for those with the time and interest.  But then at the bottom of the article with an accompanying recipe was the nutrition facts, including calorie content in the baby food.  Seriously?  Please tell me that people aren't calorie counting their baby's food.  How do they even know how many calories their baby needs?  Our obsession with calories is out of control.

This led me to further ponder the norm of listing nutrition information for recipes.  Almost all current cookbooks and recipes online come with a calorie count, along with the amount of carbs, fat, protein, sodium, cholesterol, etc.  Is this information helping us?  Doubtful.  It just takes the enjoyment out of food.

If you listen to your body it will tell you what it's hungry for and how much food it needs.  You don't need an external chart of nutrition information to dictate what your body already knows.
