Meet Katy

Sometimes showing up for a meal, for a treatment appointment, or just mentally showing up for recovery in general is "the work."

Sometimes it means doing more than that.  Journaling, reading, taking risks, connecting, fostering relationships, allowing yourself to be present for your emotions.

The act of recovery will continue to mean different things at different times and throughout different stages in your life.  It is constantly evolving.

As said in this Recovery Warriors blog post by Deborah Moore:

People can change and do it all the time. Keep going and keep working at recovery.

Don’t worry, the strength will come.

Another favorite source of inspiration of mine is the great Isabel Foxen Duke (even her name is majestic!).  Here's one of her blog posts on emotional eating where she says:

When we strip away the judgement of our emotional eating, and stop calling it a disease, a defect, a problem in and of itself;

we can finally see it for what it is:

An alert that something in our life needs our attention. Something completely unrelated to food or our weight.

Be grateful for the reminder. It might be saving your ass.
