Meet Katy

Hey there, and welcome back to Rebuilding Trust with Your Body! Today, I want to get real with you. Have you ever found yourself sneaking food wrappers into the trash, hoping no one will see what you ate? Whether it’s a handful of candy after Halloween or grabbing fast food when you’re out running errands, that shame you feel around food is something I hear about all the time. So, if you’ve ever felt like you need to hide the evidence—this episode is for you.

Right after Halloween, a lot of us find ourselves surrounded by candy—whether it’s leftover from trick-or-treating or brought into the office. And for many of us, eating that candy can feel like we’ve done something wrong. We feel guilty, ashamed, and maybe even like we have to hide the wrappers so no one knows how much we ate. But here’s the thing: it’s time to bring that shame out into the light and start breaking free from the guilt cycle.

We Discuss:

  • Why we hide food: It’s all about shame—shame about the food itself, or fear of judgment from others. And how this sneaky behavior is often rooted in food rules we’ve internalized.
  • The Shame Loop: How the more we hide, restrict, or feel guilty about food, the worse it gets. That guilt just keeps fueling cravings, and we end up stuck in a cycle.
  • Melting the Shame: This is where intuitive eating comes in. It’s about giving yourself permission to eat what you want without guilt, and starting to neutralize those judgments we have about certain foods.
  • Releasing Wrapper Shame: The next time you eat something you feel ashamed of, I challenge you to not hide the wrapper. Dispose of it openly, like you would any other piece of trash. It’s one small step toward letting go of the shame and allowing yourself to enjoy food without the guilt.
