Meet Katy

I've been in an emotional funk this week.  I could go through all of the "woe is me" reasons that I feel this way but they are irrelevant to my point here.

What this has signaled to me is that I am in need of some self-care.  So I have been pouring it on.  I have been going to bed early, spending time in prayer, doing deep breathing, putting on lovely scented lotion, and taking walks.  I don't feel guilty or selfish for doing these things.  In fact, I feel soothed and empowered knowing that I am attuned to my soul's needs and can respond compassionately.

The words of Glennon Doyle Melton ring true to me today:

"You will never find your perfect life “balance” on the path for the same reason you will never find a unicorn on the path – because these things don’t exist. Forget unicorns and balance. If you were perfectly balanced- you’d never have to take any ones hand to steady yourself, and that would be a tragedy. There is no solid ground on the path – so don’t hold your breath till you find it. Breathe deeply and keep moving forward awkwardly."

I hope you'll take this as encouragement and permission to do your own self-care, knowing that you probably won't find perfect balance with everything in your life, but that you can keep moving forward one deep breath at a time.
