Meet Katy

If I'm in control I don't have to experience uncomfortable emotions.

This is a dangerous belief.  Pretending to be just fine and suppressing emotions creates an internal pressure cooker.  When it finally explodes the emotions erupt like a volcano, which can be scary because it feels out of control.  This fuels the notion that the emotions are too difficult to handle and thus must be packaged and hidden away.

The problem with living under this false assumption is that fear of being out of control (code for "fear of feeling emotions") is that you live your life in a way that feels safe and is devoid of risks or vulnerability.  When you avoid the negative emotions you avoid the positive ones too.

Controlling your food is not the same ting as controlling your emotions.  You can pretend it is all you want, but all you're doing is distracting yourself from what you're feeling.  Distracting yourself from truly engaging in life.
