It is estimated that 25-30% of people seeking weight loss programs have binge eating disorder (BED). That is 1 out of every 3 or 4 people. That’s a lot.
The problem is, dieting is a CAUSAL factor in the development of BED.
The treatment for BED is a non-diet approach.
SO…for those 1/3-1/4 of people in these programs, their ‘solution’ (dieting) to their alleged problem (weight) is actually making BED worse, probably perpetuating further weight gain, and making them even more desperate to lose weight.
It’s a viscous cycle.
