- Media literacy – Teach your kids to critically analyze the media they consume. Look for "teachable moments" when you are together, whether it be pointing out fat-shaming comments on a TV show, or challenging the concept of a "beach bod" when you see yet another post about it on social media.
- Advocacy – Help and encourage your kids to use their voice to take a stand against organizations that promote the thin ideal. Have them share unfiltered photos of themselves on social media. Advocate for policies and programs in your kids' schools that support health/wellness without focusing on weight. Speak out against the dieting culture. Educate yourself on these topics.
- Work on your own stuff – If you struggle with your own body image, get some help and work on improving this. Stop making disparaging or negative comments about your own body. Don't comment on the appearance of others, positively or negatively, as it reinforces the message that appearance is of the utmost importance.
